Is there a need to use heater and UV fil

Dear AFT bros,
(1) Is there really a need to use Heater 24/7?
I started keeping my Aros and tank mate last
Year march, at first my aro had slight cloudy eyes

and recover 2weeks later after I add on heater。 But
After that I turn off the heater, about 3month later
my aro had another cloudy eyes problem again。 I know
Its because I never maintain the water parameter well。
So again I add in heater。。。 Until it recover till now I never
Take out the heater again, as I really dont know is it a must
to have heater in aro tank cos I already can manage the
water parameter quite well。。。
Please advise。。。。
(2) I have notice bro in AFT talks about UV filter。
I dont use it, cos I dont know how it works? My
Tank often have algae too, as its green or white I
really cant different out cos mine is a full black tank?
Is it better to run a UV filter in aro tank to maintain?
And how to use it?
Current Tank Use! 5x2x2 Side IOS tank。
Fish in Tank! 3x Aros (size! 12inc, 13inc, 14inc)
2x PB (size! 8inc)
1x IT (size! 10inc)
1x Tigirinus (size! 6inc)

1x Tigirinus (size! 6inc) Heater is not necessary in Singapore weather since our water temp will be about 27-30 degrees。。。 The only time you require heater is when your fish is sick and you want to increase the water temp to about 33 so that the bad bacteria hopefully dies at the higher temp。。。of course with medication would help even more。
Unless your fish is sick, there is no point keeping such high temperature since arowanas are happy with 27-30 degrees。。。
>As point out by fish fish, fish farming ponds heater is only use when fish is sick。
Better not use it on a 24 hour basis unless your tank is in an air con room。 (Waste $$$ also) in addition, this would also prevent the baterica to climatize to a higher temperature thereby rendering future treatment ineffective
Im not sure about the use of UV, however, the algae maybe due to direct exposure to sunlight, you could eliminate the source if possible, alternatively, add a sucker fish !P
there is a discuss on the UV topic also, you may get further information there
>You can use heater, go for reliable brands。。 if heater is not in used for a long period of time especially if submerged in the tank。。 pls do a check on the thermostat。。 put it in a flask or pail 。。。 heard of situation where thermostat failed ";boiling"; fishes in the tank。。。
Heater can be used to maintain temperature of the tank。。 set to 31 and let it be if you so desire lah lol。。 Mine has not been in use for months now。。 I am battling high temperature in my tank
>typically if ur tank in ur living room is air conditioned fully。。 like an up market condo
den yes u probably need the heater。。
for UV filter。。 my friend only turn it on and let it run for a day when algae start showing cos his tank at the balcony
otherwise he off it
>Increasing temperature will further reduce DO in the water leading to problems。 Add aeration if you really need to increase temperature。
>If u have a sump tank, it will be good if u put a Uv light, heater is not necessary for your tank depending on where you place your tank。 Check your tanks temperature before putting one heater。 If theres a need, then u place one, do be careful of the heater you are using。 I have incident where the heater blow its limit。
>If you wanna reduce algae you can get a sucker。 Dont have to spend extra to get a UV。 And as the bros said, Heater is not encouraged in singapore waters due to our climate unless fish is sick。 Even so, Do transfer out to a hospital tank and put a heater there。 Try not to put a heater into your main tank。
>I agreed with Fishfish , heater not require。 And UV as mentioned by brothers here, use it unless tank has algae Originally Posted by Fishfish Heater is not necessary in Singapore weather since our water temp will be about 27-30 degrees。。。 The only time you require heater is when your fish is sick and you want to increase the water temp to about 33 so that the bad bacteria hopefully dies at the higher temp。。。of course with medication would help even more。

>Hi bro,
here is my experience, hope it can be helpful for you。
Heater ! I only use it when aro is sick。 The rest of the time keep it, no need to waste more electricity。 hehe。。。。
UV light ! One of the greatest investion。 For the common hobbyist, a simple way to have crystal clear tank。
good luck and cheers。
